legshields and carburettor

The legshields on this bike incorporate a small cover for the carb. The air slide pin is extended to pass through this and ends in a (degraded) bakelite knob. Sadly this fell apart when I removed the cover but I'll keep the pieces. This pin isnt listed in current parts catalogues.

Legshields are held on at 3 points... under the tank... 19mm nuts each side

Very short, they just pass through the tank into the hex rubber mount.

Tilt forward and lift off the tank (fuel hose broken on mine) revealing the hex mount system

The rubber blocks unscrew by hand

I reassembled it inc the small bolts for storage.
It's also held at the front by a cross brace. This is retained by 2 screws with cup washers below the louvres.

Remove these screws...
...and the cross brace comes out

The legshields are now held by 2 10mm nuts onto a pass through stud at the lower rear. In my case one nut came off but the other unscrewed the entire stud so this will need cleaning and lubrication before refitting.

This allows the carb to be seen. The cable enters through a canted guide tube at the top. I cant find this type of carb top currently listed. The guide is screwed into the carb top but not tightly, it has the ability to move and so swivels easily but I don't know how air leaks are prevented. The cable outer ends in a ferrule which fits into the guide tube; the cable-to-guide tube joint is sealed with a rubber boot. Cable adjustment on this model is at the twistgrip end.

I dismantled and cleaned the carb pretty much as previous described in my other blog. I reassembled installing a new throttle cable and was pleased to see the twistgrip works well.

Currently I'm cleaning the tank which I'll remount with the renovated tap in order to ride the bike and check gearbox function which I can't really do unless under load.

Not refitting showed that the new mounting block was too high to allow the tank to fit (block hadn't been present when I dismantled the bike). I has to trim it to allow the tank to fit.
